Jonesboro Family Pet Hospital is a privately owned, full service, medical and surgical veterinary hospital seeking a part time or full time, compassionate, and enthusiastic Associate Veterinarian. We are a well established small animal practice that is located in Jonesboro Arkansas, focused on dogs and cats. We have been accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association since 1997, and also practice Fear Free medicine.

Veterinary Technician:

Application and full job description:

The Memphis Zoo seeks a Veterinary Technician.  This position provides support to the hospital team during medical procedures for all animals within the Zoo’s care.  This is a full-time role requiring weekend work, the ability to provide support for after hour medical emergencies, and the willingness to work in a team-centered environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide assistance with examinations, interpretation of data for accurate diagnoses of diseases and injuries, and the selection of appropriate medical treatment.
  • Assist in surgical procedures, using anesthesia equipment and monitors, and preparing any surgical instruments required.
  • Care of any hospitalized or quarantined animals which may include the administration of medications, and obtaining diagnostic samples or specimens as needed.
  • Ensures all required equipment is available and functional prior to any procedure or transport.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report individual animal responses to medical treatment to staff veterinarians.
  • Document all hospitalized and quarantined animal observations including intake, output and demeanor in ZIMS daily report.  Maintain individual animal record keeping in filing cabinets, radiology log, serum bank and necropsy log.
  • Assist in necropsies, including preparing samples for culture, storage, or shipment to outside laboratories.
  • Perform laboratory tests, including fecal parasite exams; blood work; urinalysis; microbiological isolation, identification and sensitivity; and other tests as needed.
  • Accurately fill, label and distribute animal prescriptions as needed.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of radiological equipment and procedures.   Apply proper animal positioning and technique which results in the production of diagnostic radiographic images.
  • Monthly inventory of all pharmaceuticals and supplies.  Biannual documentation of all controlled substances.
  • Order all needed supplies, perform/schedule routine maintenance on hospital equipment as required and perform housekeeping tasks to ensure appropriate cleanliness/sterility within the hospital environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in order to achieve the goals and mission of the zoo.
  • Provides support to hospital staff, zookeepers, and students/volunteers. Participates in all mandatory employee training sessions.



Hospital Keeper

The Memphis Zoo seeks a Hospital Keeper.  This position is primarily responsible for daily husbandry and handling of animals under veterinary care in the hospital.  This position also monitors and evaluates individual animal responses to medical treatment and reports irregularities and abnormal behavior to the hospital team members.  This is a full-time role requiring weekend work, the ability to provide support for after hour medical emergencies, and the willingness to work in a team-centered environment.


Essential Job Functions

  • Monitors and evaluates individual animal behaviors during periods of hospitalization/quarantine.
  • Reports any animal or facility irregularities to all other hospital team members appropriately.
  • Assist with all veterinary procedures within the hospital as well as on zoo grounds.
  • Prepares and delivers appropriate daily diets to all hospitalized/quarantined animals.
  • Maintains accurate records of behavior, consumption and output of hospitalized/quarantined animals.
  • Appropriately cleans and disinfects animal enclosures/habitats within the hospital ensuring a sanitary and safe environment.
  • Monitor indoor as well as outdoor hospital facilities and equipment for proper function/safety.  Report any needed repairs.
  • Incorporate behavioral husbandry techniques such as approved environmental enrichment and/or operant conditioning into animal care routines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in order to achieve the goals and mission of the zoo.

We are opening a state-of-the-art, companion animal facility in East Memphis. This is a family business built and operated by the same pet-loving family that owns and operates Barks and Recreation. Being in the pet industry for the past five years we feel the need to set new standards in Veterinary Care in Memphis and the Mid-South, just as we’ve done in Boarding and Day Care.
